Instructions for Ballerina Bunny
Tutu
Bottom of the Tutu—worked in the crocodile stitch
You will create the scales by working into the foundation row. The foundation is comprised of alternating stitches with ch 1 spaces between them. The foundation stitch pattern is as follows: work 2 dc into a st, space, 1 dc, space, 2 dc, space, 1 dc, space, across the entire row.
For a crocodile stitch tutorial, click here.
Create Foundation Row
Row 1: With Diamond, ch 61. Work 2 dc in 6th chain from hook. (This counts as the first set of 1 dc, space, 2 dc.) Ch 1, sk 2 chs, dc into the next ch, ch 1, sk 2 chs, 2 dc in next ch—repeat across the row. You will end up working two double crochets into the last ch. (21 dc—7 chains will have one double crochet worked into it, and seven ch stitches will have two double crochets worked into it.)
Start your first row of crocodile scale stitches
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sk the first dc (which was the last dc of the previous row). Work 5 bpdc around the post of the second double crochet in the row. These are worked from the top down, so that the second bpdc is worked around the same post directly below the first bpdc. This makes the first half of the first crocodile scale. Work 5 dc around the next post. These are worked from bottom to top. If you are right handed, then you will be inserting your hook from the left side to right and double crochet around the post. Slp sts in the next dc to secure the scale to the row. Repeat across the row. You will end with a scale. (This means that you will not do the last slip st at the very end of the row). You should have seven scales.
Row 3: Create another row of alternating dc that will look similar to the first row. Work one dc into the center of each scale and two double into the slp sts. Turn and ch 1. (The back of the scales should be facing you.) Slp st in center of first scale. Ch 4. Work 2 dc in the next slip st. Ch 1, dc in the center of the next scale. Ch 1, dc in center of scale. Ch 1, 2 dc in next slip st. Repeat across the row. Ending with 2 dc into the first dc you skipped to create the scales.
Create three rows of scales.
Row 4: Repeat row 2.
Row 5: Follow instructions for row 3 again.
Row 6: Repeat row 2. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Finish Bottom of Tutu
Form ring by sewing the ends together. The width of the back seam is half a scale. Weave in yarn ends and trim.
