Free Crochet Kitten Pattern
This crochet kitten pattern was created for the cat lovers out there. It is super cute, furry and adorable. As an added bonus it works up quick because you use a 9mm crochet hook.

Materials for Crochet Kitten
- Lion Brand Pelt bulky (chunky) weight nylon/polyester yarn (13/4 oz/47 yds/50g per ball):
- 1 skeins #204 Chinchilla [Fur yarn can be hard to undo. To be safe, I recommend buying two skeins.]
- Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (31/2 oz/170 yds/100g per skein):
- 1 skein # 153 Black
- Darice Cat Eyes with Metal Washers 12 mm 6 pc. (I used orange eyes because I had them.)
- Poly-Fil® Premium Fiber Fill
- Size N/13/9mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
- Scrap piece of pink felt
- Optional Embellishment–1/4″ strip of red felt and 1″ circle in gray
- Fabric glue
- Tapestry needle
Crochet Kitten Instructions
Face
Rnd 1: With both yarns, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, place stitch marker. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: [Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] around. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: [Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around. (24 sc)
Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing.
Back of Head
Rnd 1: With both yarns, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, place stitch marker. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: [Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] around. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: [Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around. (24 sc)
Rnd 5: [Sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around. (30 sc)
Fasten off.
Ear (make 2)
Double up the black yarn.
Row 1: Ch 2, work 3 sc in in the second ch from the hook. (3 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in sc, 2 sc in sc, sc in sc. (4 sc)
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in sc, sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in sc. (6 sc)
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in sc, sc in 4 sc, 2 sc in sc. (8 sc)
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Front Paw (make 2)
Rnd 1: With both yarns, ch 2, 6 4sc in 2nd ch from hook, place stitch marker. (4 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (8sc)
Rnds 3-4: Sc in each sc around.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Body
Rnd 1: With white, ch 5, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in the next 2 ch sts, 3 sc into the last ch. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: Working the other side—sc into the 2 middle sc and 2 sc into the first sc of the previous round; there should be 3 sc at each end and four sc in the middle (10 sc) style.
Rnd 3: 2 sc in the first sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in each of the next 4 sc, sc in next sc. 2 sc in each of the next 3 sc. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: * Sc in next 2 sc, work 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from * (24sc)
Rnd 5: * Sc in next 3 sc, work 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from * (30sc)
Rnd 6: * Sc in next 4 sc, work 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from * (36sc)
Rnds 7 -9: Sc in each sc.
Rnd 10: * Sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * (30 sc)
Rnd 11: Sc in each sc.
Rnd 12: * Sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * (24 sc)
Rnd 13: Sc in each sc.
Rnd 14: * Sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * (18 sc)
Rnd 15: Sc in each sc.
Rnd 16: * Sc in next sc, sc2tog; repeat from * (12 sc)
Rnd 17: Sc in each sc.
Stuff. Adjust opening so that it is closer to one side–fig. A.
This will make it easier to attach the head and make a cuter kitten. Figure A shows what the form would look like when stuffed in the standard manner.
Rnd 18: [Sc dec in next 2 sc] around.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Tail
Row 1: With both yarns, ch 16. Sc in the second ch from the hook and the remaining ch sts. (15 sc)
Rows 2- 3: Ch 1, turn sc in each sc.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing. Sew along the length of the piece.
Assemble
- Ears attach to face. Sew ears to front of head with a space of two sc between them.
- Back of head attach to face. Leaving the bottom (approx. ¼) open, sew the two pieces together. Weave in yarn ends.
- Attach eyes. Insert into middle of face and secure.
- Option face detail. Use black yarn to sew line between bottom of nose and mouth. Then sew to add mouth.
- Add nose. Cut nose from pink felt. Glue into place.
- Close up head using both yarns. Join yarns to bottom edge. Work twelve single crochet around. Stuff. [Sc dec in next 2 sc] around. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
- Attach head to body. Sew head into place.
8. Sew tail into place.
Notes:
I chose not to create back paws, because they wouldn’t be seen.
