I created this vintage inspired jewelry for the June 2011 issue of PolymerCAFE. My interest in jewelry comes from vintage jewelry. You might be wondering what is vintage jewelry. It is jewelry created between the years of 1929 to 1980. Why do I and others find vintage jewelry so alluring? It is due to workmanship, quality and design.
I based the aesthetic for these vintage inspired jewelry on the jewelry created during the 1940’s. There are many great designers who fall within the time period of vintage jewelry. Miriam Haskell is one example. She would use glass leaves in her work. I was able to incorporate this element by versioning it using polymer clay. I tinted translucent polymer clay to recreate the effect of glass leaves and to complement the flowers.
