Antiqued Picture Frame
How to Create the look
You might be surprised how easy it is to transform a basic picture frame into an antiqued picture frame. It is a simple six step process. The first step is to paint paint a base coat. I painted my base coat with two colors. The second color was an accent color. The second step is to apply a crackle medium. I used DecoArt Weathered Wood Crackle medium. The third step is to apply a top coat. This is the color that gets crackled and allows the other colors to peak through. The forth step is to attach the decoupage images. The fifth step you apply two antiquing products. First you apply the one step crackle and then you apply the antiquing medium. The sixth step is to apply a sealer.
The step by step instructions for this project can be found in the June 2010 issue of Create and Decorate.
Note: In order to create a more authentic antique look, I chose to use two crackle products. The One Step Crackle produces a finer crackle effect than the Weathered Wood.
