Assemble
The pillow embellishment can be treated as an applique—just sewn into place flat. Or, you can choose to give them dimension as shown in the photo. This means adding some fiber fill as you sew the hat to the head, the snowman to the pillow, and the bird to the pillow.
Snowman Pillow Base Assemble
Sew top and bottom edge to the front of the pillow. Sew the sides to the front. Sew the four corners. Sew back into place–about 75% of the way around. This will make it easier to add decoration. When you are done with the decoration finish sewing closed.
Assemble Snowman
- Stitch head to body.
- Stitch scarf to snowman.
- Hat—sew hat band to hat. Then sew pompom to top of hat. The hat covers approximately 1/4 of the head. Sew hat to head.
- Eyes—cut out two circles from black felt. (The diameter of the circle is between 1/4″ an 3/4″.) Glue into place. There are 6 stitches between the eyes.
- Nose—cut carrot nose out of orange felt and glue it to the center of the face.
- Mouth—use all strands of black embroidery floss to stitch mouth. The top edge of the mouth has five stitches between them and the bottom has 3 stitches.
Snowman Pillow Base Embellish & Finish
- Snowman placement—align the square edge of the snowman with the corner of the pillow. Pin the twig arm into place so that it is slightly under the body. Stitch snowman into place including its arm.
- Bird placement—it rests in the twig hand. Sew into place.
- Stuff pillow base, finish sewing closed, weave in yarn ends and trim.
